Inherited Kitchen: Saying Bye to the Past
Our client is currently living in his childhood home alone. However, his home still had his deceased mother’s items from the past 3 decades and his brother’s items from when they lived there. Seeking a fresh start, he called on us to help him purge and organize his home, getting rid of items belonging in the past and creating a space that is for him to enjoy in the present.
He originally thought he didn’t have enough cabinet space, but as we expected, he had plenty space left to spare after we were done. Throughout the process, we discarded 3 large trash bags worth of items , 5+ boxes of items to donate, and shredded a big box of paperwork from the 1980s-early 2000s.
In his words, “It’s like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. The things just needed to go".” Now when he sees his kitchen, he can actually see his countertops, has his items spread out through his cabinets, and even plans on remodeling the kitchen so it’s more up to date and better suits his style. Sometimes it takes just a little bit of organization to inspire someone. All of our clients so far have been inspired to continue organization within their homes and make their spaces not just livable, but enjoyable as well.
